Opportunity Snapshot

Bring your "need-to-win" mentality to help grow one of the defense and aerospace industry's most respected and innovative suppliers!

Your mission is to help define and develop the business development strategy for one of our key sites and drive new business. This is a great opportunity for you to take the lead role and push our business to the next level. Pivotal to your success is your ability to function as a visionary as well as a "doer" as we'll look to you to not only spearhead our business development efforts but also be out in the field (at least 50% of the time) creating new business opportunities. Full relocation expenses will be paid for the right candidate.

What You'll Bring to the Table

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in electrical or mechanical engineering); MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years experience in business development within aerospace, military, and defense contract manufacturing.
  • Expertise with leading bid, proposal and quote process.
  • Knowledge of and experience with "plus-up funding".
  • Leadership experience managing a small team.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically with a proven track record in aligning and driving deals to successful completion.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Superior proficiency in Microsoft office suite including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to travel at least 50% of the time.

What's in It for You

  • High visibility -- you'll not only shape this role, but also help establish the future growth of our company, and your contributions will be highly visible to executive leadership.
  • The best of both worlds -- you'll be part of a facility that operates with a great deal of autonomy and fosters an entrepreneurial spirit; in fact, we'll encourage you to approach your area as if it were your own business. At the same time, we are backed by the global resources and stability of the overall corporation.
  • Career growth -- in addition to being a well run company, we place a strong emphasis on employee development and succession planning. You'll acquire a broad understanding of our entire operation in this role, and your success here could set you up to pursue career opportunities in multiple areas.
  • Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive base and generous incentive plan, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including all that you would expect as well as a few features that might pleasantly surprise you.

More About Your Role

Reporting directly to the VP/General Manager, you will be charged with running the sales and business development organization for the site which includes leadership and management responsibilities for 2-3 direct reports. We'll look to you to establish a business development strategy, initiate contact with potential partners, defining the scope of the relationship, identifying profitable deal points, negotiating transactions, and managing implementation as well as defining appropriate account management.

Your initial challenges will revolve around learning our core competencies and nuances of the business and leveraging your public-speaking skills to effectively capture those differentiators into a compelling presentation to win new deals. The GM will look to you to as the "new biz development expert", and you'll have a lot of autonomy and leeway in developing strategies that garner measurable results.

In a nutshell, you'll spend about 60% of your time pursuing new business; and the remainder 40% with administrative implementations, such as reporting and tracking results and developing the team. Your specific responsibilities are to:
  • Understand the complete business unit and its strategic initiatives.
  • Develop detailed marking and sales strategies that will rapidly expand the business.
  • Identify key commands, primes and other customers for these services.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with customers in pursuit of CMS business.
  • Obtain and deliver RFP, TDP and other documents for quotes and proposals.
  • Lead internal quoting efforts on these opportunities.
  • Lead/assist Programs, Engineering and Operations in expanding business views.
  • Identify potential plus-up funding opportunities.
  • Support other business initiatives as required.
  • Lead, manage, and motivate direct reports.

  • Excellent negotiation skills in managing strategic acquisitions and partnerships.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to be able to get up in front of strangers and pitch stories to potential customers as well as internal stakeholders, to keep them apprised of new developments.
  • Analytical horsepower with a solid understanding of key metrics that drive top and bottom line revenues.
  • Life-long-learner approach to maintaining in-depth knowledge of the new business contracting landscape and trends and be able to convey that expertise within the organization and prioritize opportunities.
  • Self-assessment to understand what makes you good at what you do, and constantly taking steps to build on strengths and improve on weaknesses.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
